Project 4 : Sangeeta

This project was quite a challenge for me. It took me a very long time to do the first exercise – Color Range and Masks. When I was using Color Range all was well till I had to move the image. I was able to select the image but when I tried to move the image instead of moving the selected portion it moved the whole image. It was very frustrating because I tried it over and over, but nothing worked. Then I searched youtube for tutorial and it was quite helpful . Instructions in the book were not very clear and the tutorial showed in simple steps how to use the Color Range tool and it finally worked. The same thing happened when I was using the Mask tool. Youtube tutorial was simpler and quite effective.

To use Color-Range command first I opened the image that pressing the shift key deselected the area around the pumpkin. I had to change the Fuzziness value. Once the pumpkin was selected I clicked OK. The original image had running ants around the pupkin. Then using the move command dragged the pumpkin to the new picture. For the second image I used quick Mask tool. To select the image magic wand tool was used and then clicked on quick mask button that turned the selected picture to red. Then moved the image to the new background.

Installing Extract Filter was quite complicated. The problem was that while extracting files from zip folder were put in a different folder and not in the one that has all the other adobe Photoshop files. Once Extract filter successfully installed rest of the process was easy. I used the highlighted tool to select the image and eraser helped to select the right area. Once it was selected I moved it to the new background. Clipping Mask was also straight forward. There was background layer on the current image. I created a text layer and then a new layer was created and then selected the image that would be displayed in the text. From the Channel selected clipping mask with new layer selected. Then chose merge down and deselected the other layers but the text layer. Text layer had tulips as the background.

In conclusion Youtube is quite helpful. If you are stuck at something don’t be hesitant to use it.
